Israeli Diplomat Ridicules Macron Over France’s UN Push on Lebanon War

(MENAFN) An Israeli diplomat has publicly criticized French President Emmanuel Macron on social media as tensions rise over France's call for an emergency United Nations Security Council session on Israel's military activities in Lebanon.

According to reports, Israeli diplomat Waleed Gadban responded to news of France's request by sharing footage showing celebrations in Paris following Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League victory. The video reportedly included scenes of a crowd gathered near a burned vehicle.

Referencing a post that featured Macron and details of France's appeal to the Security Council, Gadban commented: “Meanwhile in Paris.”

The exchange came after France intensified its criticism of Israeli operations in Lebanon. Earlier, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot described the military campaign as “extremely concerning” and confirmed that Paris had asked for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

Barrot said he had “requested an emergency meeting of the UNSC” specifically to address Israel's actions in Lebanon.

He also stated that “Nothing can justify the prolongation of military operations in Lebanon and its increasingly deep occupation of Lebanese territory,” describing the situation as “extremely concerning.” Barrot further argued that Israel's conduct represented “a major mistake.”

The public exchange highlights growing diplomatic friction between France and Israel as international debate intensifies over the ongoing conflict in Lebanon and efforts to bring the issue before the United Nations Security Council.
