TGV Train-Military Convoy Collision Kills Driver in France

(MENAFN) A high-speed TGV train driver was killed Tuesday when the train struck a military convoy truck at a level crossing in northern France, authorities confirmed.

The collision took place near Nœux-les-Mines at approximately 7 a.m. local time (0500 GMT), according to emergency services and rail operator SNCF.

The driver, reportedly in his 50s, “died from the impact,” the local prefecture said.

Around 350 passengers were on board at the time of the crash, and at least 27 people sustained injuries, media reported.

Rail services between Bethune and Lens were halted for the remainder of the day.

French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot stated he would visit the site along with SNCF CEO Jean Castex.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
